BUENOS AIRES, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Andres Vombergar and Alexis Cuello scored in each half as 10-man San Lorenzo reached the quarterfinals of Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament with a 2-1 home win over Tigre on Saturday.
Vombergar gave the hosts the lead at the Nuevo Gasometro in Buenos Aires with a low finish after combining with Ezequiel Cerutti.
But San Lorenzo's early momentum was short lived as Elian Irala was sent off for denying Santiago Gonzalez a clear goalscoring opportunity, bringing down the midfielder as he raced through on goal.
The visitors immediately lifted their tempo and Hector Fertoli equalized by slotting home from close range following Ignacio Russo's pass.
San Lorenzo barely forayed into its attacking third but Alexis Cuello restored his side's lead against the run of play when he dribbled into the box on the counterattack before calmly sending a low shot into the far corner.
Meanwhile, Milton Gimenez converted the decisive spot-kick as hosts Boca Juniors also advanced by beating Lanus 4-2 on penalties. The round of 16 clash went to a shootout after the teams were locked at 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes at La Bombonera.
Elsewhere, Platense progressed with a 1-0 away win over Racing Club and Rosario Central advanced with a 2-0 home victory over Estudiantes. ■
